Factory-built ADUs (“Additional Housing Units,”) and modular homes are becoming increasingly popular in California. ADUs are great for adult children, older parents, or for rental income, and are very much on-trend. That’s why factory-built ADUs are booming; they are a fast, affordable option and easy to customize. However, as more of these homes are installed in Ventura, residents want to make sure they don’t negatively affect the look and feel of the community (or cause neighborhood streets to become congested).
The Home Gallery is a California- based company offering factory-built homes, including ADUs. They just installed two brand-new ADUs in the Ventura Keys, so I wanted to learn more about the company, the ADUs they’re putting up, and how they’re responding to community concerns. I was able to interview Trace, a representative from The Home Gallery.
A NEW APPROACH TO ADUs
The Home Gallery, like other home manufacturers, streamlines the process of home building by constructing homes and ADUs in a factory. The homes are then delivered to buyers’ properties and professionally installed. Property owners and their neighbors are spared all the clamor, unsightliness, and inconvenience of on-site construction, and the installation process tends to be fast.
What’s different about The Home Gallery are the homes. Born out of Malibu,TheHomeGallerybuildshigh- end luxury homes that are built with
localstylesandlandscapesinmind. And they construct homes faster and more efficiently than a traditional luxury builder. Trace explained that it can take up to 2 to 3 years for a traditional home (especially a luxury one) to get from permitting to a finished product, and that a home from The Home Gallery canbecompletedinjust6-8months. They usually get the permitting done in about half the time of a standard home, and the building process itself takes just 3-4 months.
ADUs AND THE COMMUNITY
With the influx of new ADUs, residents are understandably concerned about how they’ll impact the neighborhood. But it’s important to remember that whether a structure is built on a foundation or installed on a lot, it has to abide by city and local codes. These codes account for parking, road congestion, greenspace, and even the look and feel of the neighborhood. But once all regulations are met, it’s true that it’s up to builders to ensure their clients’ homes will blend well, hold their value, and not disrupt the community. The Home Gallery understands this and takes this responsibility seriously.
Trace shared that The Home Gallery considers things like over-crowding
and aesthetics up front when they build each home. The two ADUs we toured in the Ventura Keys both meshed well with local architecture and both included off-street parking spaces. The Home Gallery is mindful about building homes that rise to the standard and style of the local neighborhoodsthey’rejoining.
DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THESE ADUs
As I toured The Home Gallery’s ADUs, I truly was struck by how high-quality and stylish they were. And despite having modest square footage, they felt spacious and had lots of options for customization. I was especially impressed to see they even had fireplaces—a rare feature for factory- built homes.
Whether you’re looking to install a guest house, mother-in-law unit, or rental property (or you’d like to build ahomeforyourself),TheHomeGallery is a great option for Ventura. They have a fantastic local track record, stellar service, and a 7-year manufacturing warranty. Don’t forget to check out the full interview and tour on my YouTube channel!
